I had much more detailed versions of the figures in the background, but really, the angular abstraction versus the sensuous curves made for a much better contrast.

(And looking at this, I think that some other strife/conflict/etc card should be even further into abstraction. Something along the lines of this old piece. Or even more kinetic and broken.)

Aww...

(Is this a bad time to mention I can't help but think of rock 'em, sock 'em robots?)

Not really, no! They're a pretty rich symbolic network.

Though maybe I should work some other little Symbolic Bits in here and there when I revisit this one. I'm not quite sure they're where I'm aiming for this one.

Mmmmmm. Colours.
Awesome collection.

I just wish I could figure out which fantasy artist this is really, really reminding me of...

Thanks!

Besides your omnipresent Erte-ish use of outline and line?
And your color sense isn't too anti-erte either.

Yeah. There's some cheesy eighty fantasy artist vibe coming from the red-to-blue gradient against the red - maybe someone from the US contributions to Heavy Metal, maybe some English airbrush jockey. Something I saw years ago that the whole piece as it ended up puts me in mind of. I'll probably never figure it out until I see the half-remembered image this is reminding me of again.

Maybe this is just me still being delirious from a cold...

The card composition is excellent. But I do have an immediate question: What's the stripe down the foreground figure's face? They're not obviously nonhuman, so I can't read it as differently colored skin/fur; it's sitting in the wrong place for a shadow; and a little too irregular to look like some sort of scar.

Nah, it's intended to be a shadow. There's some backlighting going on here. Might poke at this some more later.

Very neat! I really like this one. I hope you won't be insulted (I know some artists hate being compared to other artists) if I say that the woman really reminds me of Phil Foglio's style, which I like.

He's one of my influences, and that's a very Foglio face indeed!

I tease her about the "Foglio eyes" all the time at home. XD
