Ironically enough, this welcomingly wintry image was completed on the summer solstice. 15 to go before the show, and I've fallen a little further behind schedule - but I have some pretty good roughs to go with, and one card that's been waiting half done for a couple weeks, waiting for me to decide how to do its bg.

Hmm. On one hand, especially thinking of him as a gallery piece, he seems a bit stark, especially around the face -- I almost wonder if he wouldn't benefit from some more complex shading, or even cosmetics or some adornments. On the other hand, thinking of him as a card or a personality archetype, I think he's perfect -- simple, unpretentious, and bright. I see there's supposed to be an element of surprise in the Page/Prince of Cups's offering (Rider Waite: "Whoa, check me out! Free fish!" :D ), and the contrast you noted between his warmth and his surroundings is appealingly subtle and human.

I like that the bottom of his eyes are smiling too, not just his mouth.
